Okay, lots on my mind after first few hours here in Napoli. Fascinating city, in a way. I had zero expectations or honesty, even basic knowledge about Italy and I still don’t. Most of it was just show up and see what happens.

If any expectations, it was that will be gritty - which by no doubt is, but I expected worse(? though I’d consider that the wrong word).

  • I didn’t expect a large Sri Lankan population, that took me by huge surprise

  • The metro is impressive! It also goes so deep as the city is built on a hill, a bit scary

  • English has been hard here so far, usually young people speak it but doesn’t feel like it

  • On that note, the hardest thing about not knowing a language is not being able to be yourself? I was in an elevator and wanted to crack a joke (something I do often), but I simply can’t since I don’t know the words

  • The football team is in the finals and today was a game, I thought it would be silly to miss it so went out for a walk and ended up sitting on the floor with italians cheering on the game. Next sunday is the actual finals I believe

  • I’m trying to see how long I can do this trip without buying internet, if I need it, I can activate roaming

Many other things on my mind but, I enjoyed pizza for 10 euros from a Michelin place today. I walked around a bunch as always.

First thing I do when I get to a new city is walk in a random direction until I get lost. It’s always nice as locals are confused why you’re there but yet more happy to chat, but also gives you a more realistic experience. I didn’t have internet and knew I needed to get home, so walked the general direction of the “centre” and found the subway… but also the tourist ares and wow, I was shocked by the amount of people. (acknowledging I am a tourist too).

Lastly, I was being extremely reckless while in London - i dont know why but i knew it wasnt me and i didnt like it. So i cleaned up my act, bought my flight home and slowly planning out my days in advance.

Tomorrow, I think I’m going to simply walk everywhere and everywhere to take photos and videos
